Produced in Chichibu Hiki-Gun, Saitama Prefecture, Ogawa City is famous for producing a high quality Japanese paper Washi. Above all the manufacture technology, of ‘Hosokawa Paper'which is made by only using ( Kozo) but also including other than traditional ones, like bast fibers(sunset hibiscus) and stock other than Tororoaoi-neri.
Having a 1300 years history, Ogawa Washi has been preserved and developed, leading to a unique, warm and kind texture that attracts the user`s heart.
In Edo period, Hosokawa paper was used as ground paper for sliding doors (fusumagami) and it was referred to as “living”.
It was considered to be a paper made especially for Edo townspeople and had a wide range of uses and its production area has prospered to the extent of “Pickari SenRyo”. (One Ryo is equivalent to 80,000 to 100,000 yen at the present time)
